[5:18 PM] Epheron: "Could you tell me more about this sword? We were attacked on our way here by people hoping to take it."
[5:18 PM] Evil Guide: "I can tell you what I know. It isn't a complete set of knowledge, as I'm afraid quite a bit of that was lost long ago."
[5:18 PM] Evil Guide: "Have you named it, by the way?"
[5:19 PM] Evil Guide: "I was never able to find a historical name for the sword, just what various wielders have named it instead."
[5:19 PM] Epheron: "No, I haven't."
[5:19 PM] Evil Guide: "Fascinating. You might be the first wielder to not name it."
[5:20 PM] Epheron: "It was passed to me by my master. It didn't seem mine to name."
[5:20 PM] Nashira: "Bet some of the former wielders have had some really pretentious names for it."
5:21 PM] Evil Guide: "Long ago, there was a great conflict. Elves united under the banner of some great and powerful elven lord whose name has been long since lost to time. Humans and Zards like myself were enslaved under their influence - or at least that's what the Zard history books said, so take that part with about as much salt as the ocean, of course."
[5:22 PM] Evil Guide: "In order to fight back, two blades were created - one wielded by a Zard hero, one wielded by a Human hero. They were crafted using the remnants of two beings who had forged their skills and honed them into a pair of small baubles... but the baubles themselves had been crushed. The blades were tempered and forged using the remnants of those baubles along with the finest metals known at the time."
[5:23 PM] Evil Guide: "It is said that these blades were pale imitations to the one true blade wielded by the elves though, the so-called Ara Infinitum, but the fact that there were two of them was to their advantage."
[5:24 PM] Evil Guide: "Whenever the Elven Lord fought one of the swordsman, the other was able to be elsewhere to do whatever it was that they were trying to do - have I mentioned that this was an oral tradition handed down generations? Things get a bit muddy here, and I've read seven different books with nine different things that they were doing."
[5:25 PM] Evil Guide: "Unfortunately, that was also their own undoing; the Elven Lord played one against the other instead of allowing them to unite. The Zard hero fell in combat to the Human hero, igniting a war between those two peoples."
[5:26 PM] Evil Guide: "It is said that the elves had a war of their own at the time, falling apart and losing the Ara Infinitum."
[5:26 PM] Evil Guide: "But the remaining blades - the one wielded by the Zard and Human heroes, remained and passed along through generations...."
[5:27 PM] Evil Guide: "... and that's about as much as we found before we lost knowledge. Unfortunately, the elves dropped a moon on us and we lost our ability to even write things down, so things get super murky here. So fast forward some thousands of years and the two blades surface again. It is said that the blade wielded by the human hero has the ability to slice dragons in twain, and the blade wielded by the zard hero augments the swordman's own skills."
[5:28 PM] Evil Guide: "The one you have is from the Zard hero, I believe. It matches the physical description I've heard at least."
[5:28 PM] Epheron: (... is that moon thing common knowledge, or.)
[5:28 PM] Evil Guide: NOPE.
[5:28 PM] Epheron: "... wait, can we go back to that dropped a moon thing?"
[5:31 PM] Evil Guide: "Alas, I know about as much as I just said - we only have oral history from anytime before around nine thousand years ago. Even the scraps of written history we've found have been under meters of land and in a completely incomprehensible language. Sharna appears to have had one additional moon, once upon a time."
[5:32 PM] Evil Guide: "It is said that the pieces of the moon slammed into the surface of Sharna over the course of the next few hundred years, plunging Sharna into darkness. One of those pieces is supposedly the impact crater that the archipelago seems to be formed around."
[5:33 PM] Evil Guide: "Anyway, one of my counterparts shall we say has been searching for the two swords for some time. When the war in East Ivalice happened, that's when he found out about your blade. We haven't heard anything about the other one though, which is quite strange given how distinct our physical description is for it."
[5:34 PM] Evil Guide: "A crimson blade curved at an exact angle arcing at the same angle where a midsummer's day has stars and moons aligned perfectly with the blade, a fine enchantment keeping the blade precise, with the pommel having a specific alignment of gems {insert pattern I never made up here} that sounds so distinct that I thought we would have heard of it somewhere. Perhaps it is buried underneath the remnants of that moon."
[5:35 PM] Nashira: "Why are you after those blades? Do you have a dragon that needs to be bisected?"
[5:35 PM] Lethhonel: "I thought it was someone else after the blades."
[5:36 PM] Evil Guide: "Oh, I only care about them as a point of interest for what my counterpart cares about."
[5:36 PM] Evil Guide: but Eph, you don't really hear Mara say that.
[5:36 PM] Nashira: (that's "you" as in the Empire)
[5:36 PM] Evil Guide: you are instead thinking back and you know that you have seen that exact blade before.
[5:38 PM] Evil Guide: the blade Epheron remembers is one that I described in this very campaign, although I intentionally glossed over it.
[5:39 PM] Evil Guide: this one is sitting on a mantle in a nice quaint tree, owned by one Rathis Zern.
it seems like it was used just once or twice, then never heard from again. Unlike the Ara Infinitum or your own blade, you don't find anything more contemporary about it appearing, just some written down oral traditions from the prehistoric times.
