Scan Perception -> Extra Sensory
Scanning abilities allow you to supernaturally know the powers, strengths, weakness, and other effects of a target. There are a diverse set of styles to the Scan ability, and examples are given below this section. NOTE: These are all defended against as though they are mental status effects; you are rolling vs. their Mental Status Resistance. Scan fooling would fall under Illusion -> Extra Sensory.
Range, Area of Effect, Duration
See the general rules for ability point costs for Range, Area, and Duration. Unfocused areas would be the most common, as scanning your own allies is not harmful.
Hit Points and Energy Points
- Maximum HP and EP - 1 pt
- Current+Maximum HP and EP - 2 pts
Current Hit or Defense Note: Hit based on last attack used, this is PER STAT.
- Approximate Verbal - 1 pt ("High", "Medium", "Low", et cetera)
- Approximate Numeric - 4 pts (+/- 10)
Other combat stats Note: This is PER STAT.
- Approximate Verbal - 1 pt
- Approximate Numeric - 2 pts (+/- 10)
General stats
- Name highest stat (Verbal) - 1 pt
- Name lowest stat (Verbal) - 1 pt
Level
- Approximate Level - 1 pt ("Higher than you", "Lower than you", "Same as you")
- Exact Level - 2 pts
Weakness
- Yes/No - 1 pt ("They are weak against some types of attack", "They do not have a weakness")
- Specifics - 4 pts ("Ice and Wind")
Strength
- Yes/No - 1 pt ("They are strong against some types of attack", "They are not stronger against any one type of attack")
- Specifics - 4 pts ("Ice and Wind")
Status / Physical traits
- Class - 1 pt (Classes are generalized one-to-two word descriptions of the combat style of a character)
- Current Status - 1 pt ("Uninjured", "Dead", "Injured", "Inflicted with a Status")
- Type of Status Effect - 1 pt ("Physical", "Mental", "Soul")
- Quantity of status counters - 2 pts
- Basic Physical Stats (Race, Physical Age, Gender) - 2 pts
- Current defense mode status - 8 pts
Medical
- Current Medical Injuries - 2 pts
- Medical History - 6 pts
Reductions (Note: This cannot reduce the price below 1 ability point)
- Only able to be used on either the willing or the unconscious (effectively 0 hit bonus) - -4 pts
- Casting time extended to one minute, must already be an action ability - -4 pts
Example
Status Check Perception -> Supernatural, Moderate, Precast
Precast for 6 EP: Know the current status and types of status effects on up to two people at the start of the day.
Scan Perception -> Supernatural, Weak, Action
5 EP: Detect a foe's maximum HP, EP, and approximate level at a range of 40'.
Peep Perception -> Supernatural, Moderate
2 EP/rd: Check an enemy you have hit this round's Current HP, EP, Approximate Level, and if they have a weakness.
Medical Scan Perception -> Supernatural, Moderate, Action
Cost: 12 EP, can only be used on the willing/unconscious.
Gain the full medical history, medical injuries, quantity of status counters, type of status effects, all Strengths, Weaknesses, exact level, highest general stat, lowest general stat, verbal defense, current+maximum HP, and current+maximum EP of all within 20' of the user.
Anime RPG 3.x Edition
This is the basic Type-I version of Scan and all example versions there-of. Obviously, this isn't all you can do with it, but if an NPC uses Scan, chances are that it is one of these.
Scan
Type - Weak Spell (Mysticism)
Cost - 4 EP
Range - Sight
Hit - Magic Lore check vs. Magic Defense
Action Required
Obtains basic vital stats on the target, including current HP, current EP, Class, and Level.
50% chance of working against Weak scan fooling abilities.
Advanced Scan
Type - Moderate Spell (Mysticism)
Cost - 4 EP
Range - Sight
Hit - Magic Lore check vs. Magic Defense
Action Required
Obtains more detailed stats on the target, including current and max HP, current and max EP, Class, Level, Name, and Strengths.
Ignores any scan fooling ability of Weak and below power. 50% chance of working against Moderate scan fooling abilities.
Deep Scan
Type - Major Spell (Mysticism)
Cost - 4+X EP
Range - Sight
Duration - X rounds beyond the first casting
Hit - Magic Lore check vs. Magic Defense
Action Required
Obtains very detailed stats on the target, including current/max HP, current/max EP, Class, Level, Name, Strengths, Weaknesses, current status effects, highest stat, and lowest stat.
Each round beyond the first, the caster may choose to change targets (even if the previous target was missed). Does not require an action beyond the initial casting.
Ignores any scan fooling ability of Moderate and below power. 50% chance of working against Major scan fooling abilities.
Medical Scan
Type - Major Spell (White Magic)
Cost - 4 EP
Range - Touch
Hit - Willing or Unconscious target only
Action Required
Obtains very detailed stats on the target, including current/max HP, current/max EP, Class, Level, Race, Name, Weaknesses, current status effects, current skill or stat damage, and full medical background.
Peep
Type - Moderate Martial Arts Maneuver
Cost - 4 EP, -1 attack
Range - Same as attack
Hit - Special
As long as any attack in the attack action hits, Peep obtains stats on the target, including current/max HP, current/max EP, Class, Level, Strengths, and highest stat.
Ignores any scan fooling ability of Weak and below power. 50% chance of working against Moderate scan fooling abilities.
